The World War 2 poster I picked was "United we win" by Alexander Liberman.
First I signed into blackboard. Then I clicked on Rhetoric Ads. Then I clicked
on the link titled WWII posters. After that I clicked the button that said
"click here to enter". Then I clicked on the link "United we win" and right
away the first poster caught my eye.
The poster has two men in black and white. They are leaned over using tools to
fix something. They both look pretty young somewhere between eighteen and
twenty five. They both look like they are Anglo. What really makes the poster
stand out is the American Flag behind them. It stands out because it is in
color and the rest of the poster is in black and white. At the bottom of the
poster in huge gray capital block letters says united we win.
I think that this picture is supposed to stand out to men. The meaning is
showing that if we work together as a team that we can succeed. The poster is
trying to say that if the men in the army work together and continue to stay
united like these two men in the poster are demonstrating that we can win the war.

I really like that you have a sence of patriotism, I do like the words and the meaning of most of these posters, but many of them are pretty Hipocratic. Not too long ago I spoke to a lady, veteran of WWII, she talked to me of her friend Nicole a women that was in the service with her. she mentioned me a moment when this girl got sent to THE BACK OF THE BUS by her GENERAL OR SARGENT, so from this ony testimony i asue many of the things said on these posters were a hipocracy to invite minorities to join the service and make them belive THEARMY IS NOT THE SAME.

ReplyDeleteI like your comments on the use of color. Red, white and blue are common to lots of these images but you are right to point out how this poster is powerful in the way it puts black and white images against the flag. Really causes the image- and the patriotic emotions it emboides-pop.
I would recommend going back to look at the poster again as I believe part of the message is that the soldiers are racially different. Does that change the meaning of the poster? The intended audience?

i think you did a great job analyzing this poster. i also think you drew a valid conclusion from the poster. i agree with you that having the men work together is supposed to symbolize that if we work together we can win the war. i think the american flag in color symbolizes a lot of patriotism.
