The technology I am thinking of doing for my paper is facebook. I would talk about how it all started as instant messages and e-mails only about 10 years ago and now internet communication has spread as high as facebook profiles, where you can do all of that at once. I would talk about how quickly and rapidly these sort of sights came about.

I remember that. I especially remember when facebook was exclusive, but now it has gotten way to big for even itself. This would be a cool story to tell.

ReplyDeleteYeah, when I joined Facebook, it was exclusive to college students and alumni. Now it's achieved more popularity than even MySpace did in its prime.
ReplyDeleteFacebook sounds like a a great topic. You might want to think about this argument that Facebook has changed since membership has changed from being university students only. How did a change in technology change the goals of the space? What did the site value then, what does it value now?
ReplyDeleteI wonder too if you might want to think about smaller discourse communities within the Facebook discourse communities. Think about different reasons people are on Facebook - school groups, work, fan groups, group spaces. It might be useful to look at a mini-Facebook community.
