Oklahoma city memorial
When I look at the virtual tour of the Oklahoma city memorial it is almost like being there. It seems like it would be really peaceful and calm if you were there in person. It doesn't look like there is even much wind the trees don't look like they're moving and the water in the reflecting pool isn't rippled which makes me think that it is very calm and serene. A visual symbol I see that is important is the field of empty chairs. When you look at this you realize how many people really died. The number one hundred and something doesn't seem like so much until you actually see visually one by one how many that would actually be. I think these chair set a mood of sorrow for the loved ones who knew and lost these people that are represented with the empty chairs. Another great symbol was the gates of time where you can see the time on a digital clock of the moment of destruction. The gates look really big and when they reflect themselves in the pool they seem even bigger. I think this sets a mood of sadness or grief for what happened that day to the people who lost their lives, the people who knew them, and the people who are honoring them now.
I agree - even the virtual tour seems peaceful. Think about how the use of color and light and dark in the video contributes to this feeling.
ReplyDeleteI like how you look at the chairs, too - symbols of loss and also honor.
Great analysis.
